METRO, the free newspaper printed by Associated Newspapers and distributed to London’s commuters at London Underground stations, is set to retain its contract with Transport for London.
Step-free works completed at Hainault station
The installation of three new lifts is set to make life easier for mobility-impaired passengers using Hainault Tube station. The central line station now offers step-free access to the platforms from street level, boosting the station’s accessibility to wheelchair users and those with mobility impairments.
Assembly cancel Thames estuary airport hearing
An upcoming session of the London Assembly Environment Committee which was to hear from Doug Oakervee on the Mayor’s proposal to build a new airport in the Thames has had to be altered after Mr Oakervee’s employers advised the Assembly he will be overseas for business reasons and unavailable to the committee “for some months to come”.
Mayor launches £100,000 music education fund
Boris Johnson visited the Southbank this morning to launch the next stage in his drive to increase the numbers of young Londoners who learn to play a musical instrument. City Hall says Johnson is concerned that many musical initiatives are short-term and that music is too often squeezed off the curriculum.
Assembly to review TravelWatch role
Passenger watchdog London TravelWatch has welcomed the news that the London Assembly is to set up a review of its role. Earlier this week the Assembly unanimously agreed to look at the costs of the Watchdog and its procedures “to ensure that it is best placed to deliver value for money and serve passengers’ needs effectively over the next ten years.”
