Former Minister for Transport in London and two time Tory Mayoral candidate Steve Norris is to join the boards of London Development Agency and Transport for London with the specific remit of co-ordinating work between the two bodies.
Mr Norris has been appointed by Mayor of London Boris Johnson who has also confirmed that he will follow his predecessor in chairing the TfL board.
Norris first entered Parliament in 1983 representd the Oxford East constituency. He later served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport and Minister for Transport in London, where he was responsible for the Jubilee Line Extension.
Since leaving politics Mr Norris has Chaired the National Cycling Strategy Board and is a former Director General of the Road Haulage Association and President of the Motor Cycle Industry Association.
In a statement issued by his office Mayor Johnson said: "Stephen Norris will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of both transport and business to these important roles, and is therefore uniquely placed to co-ordinate their work. He has also proved, time and time again that he has a pationate comitment to London, which I applaud".
Mr Norris previously served on the TfL board during former Mayor Ken Livingstone's first term before stepping down in November 2001.
