London is to host a free event in Trafalgar Square later this month to mark Africa Day which wil include performances by Les Amazones de Guiné, Zaire musician Kanda Bongo Man and Mali ngoni player Bassekou Kouyate.
Organisers say there will also be African food and drink and stalls selling African arts and crafts.
The capital's event is organised by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and sponsored by the British Transport Police and Kato Enterprises.
Mayor Johnson said the celebrations "are an excellent opportunity to get a taste of Africa and its many cultures:" and invited "all Londoners to play a part".
Other performers expected to attend include include Kanda Bongo Man from Zaire with his lilting Soukous melodies; the Kaago Drummers with their traditional djembe playing from the Ivory Coast; Busi Ncube from Zimbabwe who sings in a unique style using six African languages and her mbira; and the Black Eagle Drummers.
Africa Day on Trafalgar Square will be held on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May 2008.
