Londoners go to the polls today for the third Greater London Authority elections which will determine who runs London for the next four years.
As well as choosing from a list of ten candidates including for Mayor of London voters will also decide who will sit on the 25-strong London Assembly which scrutinises the Mayor.
There are two sets of elections and ballot papers for the Assembly. Using the yellow ballot paper voters can vote for a Constituency Assembly Member to represent their area, the peach-coloured ballot allows an additional vote for a party or independent candidate as a London-wide Assembly Member.
The election comes after a final week of at times quite blunt campaigning with the two frontrunners for Mayor exchanging barbs. Ken Livingstone has been warning Londoners against voting for ‘a joke’ while Conservative candidate Boris Johnson has been urging voters to opt for ‘a change for the better’.
Although opinion polls disagree on the outcome most suggest the victor will secure only a small majority.
