1 out of 5 stars OK while it works...   June 12, 2008

I've had it for 6 months now. I'm now in the process of re-installing it YET AGAIN; this is now the 5th time. Each time I have to re-install it gives me a message stating: AN ERROR HAS PREVENTED OneCare FROM INSTALLING A REQUIRED UPDATE. Why? The Help pages are useless. They give you a long list of things to do: none of which work. Seeing as how my machine is on dial-up for the Internet, it takes about 3 hours to download it again. Being on Tesco internet, it automatically disconects you after 2 hours. Great. So you get a window saying the download failed, and would you like to re-try. You say YES and then it takes you back to square one. If you're lucky, it may have got far enough to carry on from where you were when you were disconnected, but not every time.
Don't buy this is you do not have broadband. Don't buy this if your processor speed is below 2.0GHz. I'm sure there are better packages around; when this one expires I'll be looking for them.

1 out of 5 stars Far from reliable   June 12, 2008

When I first bought this softwear I was very much under the impression that it was the bees knees. However after a few months it failed to load on me when I started my computer, I tried to load it manually but it still wouldn't have it. Then I reinstalled the softwear to if that would cure it, however no such look. I then called Microsft to see if they could help me out & after about two hours yes TWO hours of a customer service guy trying to sort it out on line with his computer he could not even cure it. I then decided to download the free antivirus softwear AVG to see if it was a virus preventing Windows live Onecare from starting, after doing a full system scan with AVG it found more then 167 viruses, tracking cookies, worms & spywear on my computer yet when I scanned my computer a day before with Windows live Onecare it found nothing. My message to all toughs people that have given five stars for this softwear thinking that it's protecting there computer is this, give your computer a full system scan with the AVG antivirus softwear then see what you think of onecare.

1 out of 5 stars OneCare - I sent it back   May 27, 2008

I've used McAfee for as long as I can remember but this year decided to swap over the OneCare. Big mistake. I installed in 5 times to get a stable installation and scandisk ran twice after rebooting. Never did get it to work so sent it back. It looked like you have to use a Live ID account also as an ordinary email address was not accepted.

1 out of 5 stars Caution: will not install with XP SP3   May 21, 2008

The boxed version has a bug if you have installed SP3. Gives errorID 0036-80070643. You can work around by uninstalling SP3 and then reinstalling or vote with your feet and do not buy this product until this bug is patched. Or is this the reason why the boxed version is half the price of online version?! The boxed version does most of the installation online anyway - takes about 15 minutes with 1mb adsl and you then activate with usually 25 digit key after creating or logging in with a windows live account.

4 out of 5 stars Good but expensive subscription renewal   May 9, 2008

Great product that I run on three pc's (XP and Vista). Less obtrusive than other programmes I have used and guides me through the home networking solution with ease. Does not seem to slow the PC as much as Norton and Zone labs did.
Defrag facility is a waste of time - see previous reviews.
End of year subscription renewal was 37.00 from MS! Cheaper to purchase again from Amazon - which I have just done.
