'Another Great Record From A Great Band' April 13, 2007 Antony May (East Sussex, United Kingdom) As the follow up to their excellent debut album 'Too Hot To Handle', 'Central Heating' had a lot to live up to. In short...IT DID. In fact, this album is every bit as essential to soul lovers as their first record. Opener 'Put The Word Out' builds slowly rather like 'Boogie Nights' but, though funky, is a little more complex a track and not quite as commercial. In contrast, 'Send Out For Sunshine' is pure summer radio and would undoubtedly have been a smash if it had been chosen as a single. The title track is more in the vein of the opener and is gritty funk before you get to Johnnie Wilders dreamy summer song 'Happiness Togetherness' which was doubled as an A side with the equally sublime 'Mind Blowing Decisions'. 'The Groove Line' of course was another smash hit single and is another disco classic, while slow groove lovers will simply adore the albums most sought after cut 'Star Of A Story' an atmospheric smoocher of the highest calibre. Last two tracks 'Party Poops' and 'Leavin' For A Dream' may be slightly less good but this is a monster album and one you should have in your collection!
Seventies Classic May 25, 2005 M. D. Mcclimens 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't believe this album has not been previously reviewed! From start to finish this is a superb collection of songs which will leave the listener satisfied. There's no filler here, the music remains timeless and not particularly dated because it was well produced (Barry Blue) and the lyrics mostly written by Rod Temperton. I was first introduced to Heatwave in the late seventies when I was beginning to grow out of punk and gravitating towards 'disco'! I've just replaced the worn out tape with a digitally remastered CD and the sound is fantastic. Turn the lights down low, chill with a bottle of red and enjoy!
