| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Amy Winehouse's second album, Back to Black, is one of the finest soul albums, British or otherwise, to come out for years. Frank, her first album, was a sparse and stripped-down affair; Back to Black, meanwhile, is neither of these things. This time around, she's taken her inspiration from some of the classic 1960's girl groups like the Supremes and the Shangri-Las, a sound particularly suited to her textured vocal delivery, while adding a contemporary songwriting sensibility. With the help of producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, "Rehab" becomes a gospel-tinged stomp, while the title track (and album highlight) is a heartbreaking musical tribute to Phil Spector, with it's echoey bass drum, rhythmic piano, chimes, saxophone and close harmonies. Best of all, though, is the fact that Back to Black bucks the current trend in R&B by being unabashedly grown-up in both style and content. Winehouse's lyrics deal with relationships from a grown-up perspective, and are honest, direct and, often, complicated: on "You Know I'm No Good", she's unapologetic about her unfaithfulness. But she can also be witty, as on "Me & Mrs Jones" when she berates a boyfriend with "You made me miss the Slick Rick gig". Back to Black is a refreshingly mature soul album, the best of its kind for years. --Ted Kord

Just seen Amy perform live at Glastonbury and boy is there something special about this woman. Huuuggggeeeee magnestisn and charisma with a touch of the Marilyn Monroe tragedy about her, but what a voice. I'm hooked ;-)
Amazing voice June 19, 2008 Sergio Branco (Portugal) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well this cd is almost or entirely perfect. Each and every song in the album is very good, her voice is terrific and overall it was truly a very nice buy.
Lazy May 29, 2008 Book Addict (UK) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
There must be a dirth of singing talent..this is ok but so lazy. Most girls under the age of 14 can reproduce the mouthy noise that appears to be taken for 'singing' and Winehouse does not need to become the Whine-house she is here. The girl's got talent but she uses it with slack skill. Time to go back to school Amy. I'll listen to you when you've grown up and decided to entertain with your singing instead of gargling that whine.
Classic from the best musician alive today April 26, 2008 Thomas Swade (Manchester) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After waiting a long while I finally bought this album. It's incredible. As others have said, the music has a 50's and 60's feel but the lyrics and style are bang up-to-date. Amy's voice is incredible. I can't think of a single musician, singer or band better than her today. The album will be remembered as an all time classic. I also just got her previous album (which Amy recently said she didn't like). The style on the previous album is different but it's still brilliant! My favourite tracks on the Back to Black album are 'You Know I'm No Good' and 'Addicted'.
Okay but.... April 4, 2008 A. Moncrieff (Seattle, WA USA) 2 out of 13 found this review helpful
The album is okay, but when Amy covered AC/DC's Back in Black she should have kept the main riff! It's one of the most famous guitar riffs in the world and not to include it is bordering on nudity.
