5 out of 5 stars A good purchase!   July 3, 2008

Still using twice a week with bread mixes only as these seem to work a lot better for me than starting from scratch as you just put mix in and add water.

Great tasting bread although does not keep long.

Had to buy a wire cooling rack and an electric Knife.

Very happy with item.

5 out of 5 stars Happy Days!!!   June 26, 2008

I have wanted one of these for a long, long, time and, at last, I have one. Wonderful! What ever did I do without it? I read all the available reviews on breadmakers but was drawn back, again and again to the Panasonic SD255. My house is now full of the wonderful smell of fresh bread; my husband who was rather sceptical about yet another gadget sitting in the corner, unused, is now a real enthusiast! Happy Days! Good for Panasonic!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent household appliance   May 31, 2008

I like wholemeal bread with a good texture, colour, small and taste, but over the last 20 years each supermarket in turn seems to have replaced its excellent wholemeal with an ersatz variety of a strange sponge-like texture, a suspiciously uniform dyed-looking colouring, and hardly any aroma or crust. I read various internet reviews that all agreed the Panasonic was the only breadmaker to get if you wanted top-grade wholemeal, although many makes could manage a decent white loaf. So I took the plunge and forked out 85.

Well, folks, it's all true. The Panasonic does indeed produce a better wholemeal loaf than any supermarket, and at half the cost. I haven't bought a loaf since the machine arrived 6 months ago, and I make an XL (850gm) loaf every two days. I reckon the machine will have paid for itself in a year. It takes just a few minutes to load the machine and set the timer before you go to bed. In the morning you tip it out to cool while you make the tea. Easy!

I've tried out lots of the recipes that come with it, and have several favourites: spicy fruit loaf, French rustic white, olive bread, rye and wholemeal 50/50...........The instruction booklet is excellent, and Panasonic is obviously a company that has a seriously-funded R&D section to develop and improve its products - a friend who has the preceding model to mine noticed several worthwhile improvements. One thing I have found though, is that flours vary a lot. (The book warns you.) Keep trying different ones till you find one that rises consistently well and tastes good.

5 out of 5 stars No more shop-bought bread!   May 7, 2008

I received the breadmaker a couple of months ago for my birthday and we haven't bought any bread since it arrived. The first thing to say is that the machine is very simple to use and to maintain. You cannot put the bread tin in the dishwasher which some might see as a problem - but in truth the tin needs no more than a wipe with a cloth. I have tried a wide range of loaf styles, both from the Panasonic manual & from a variety of cookbooks, and they have all turned out as expected. I haven't bothered with any of the bread mixes you can buy as they contain the same kind of flour "improvers" and additives as the bread you buy in the shops (artisan bakers excluded but there aren't any close to where I live). The joy of having the breadmaker is that I can get good quality bread using high quality ingredients and without unnecessary 'extras' - and all this with the minimum of effort. Fantastic!

3 out of 5 stars Negative reviews out first   May 6, 2008

Further to my earlier negative review of this machine and the customer service you don't get from Panasonic it seems to me that the negative reviews are allowed a shorter shelf life in the forum than the positive ones and are removed sooner. They should remain at least as long as the other reviews so people can make a choice.
