1 out of 5 stars Originally great...then random failure!!   August 19, 2008
Graham Pollock (Northern Ireland,UK)
I bought this product just under a year ago, and had a similar problem to the review below. It was working fine, doing what it was meant to, but then it just stopped working one day. It was not being recognised by any computers, Vista or XP. It would not let me reformat it.
I'm actually so angry because I thought this would be the safest way to back up files and put my music on to save space on my computer, but now I've lost over 60GB of music!

Bought one of these about 6 months ago, they cost more than 100 Euro [80 pound] then. I used it exclusively as a back-up. Yesterday it died. I didn't even have the time to use the entire space. I own 8 iPods and they are all still alive so I guess I'm not a moron in the field of pc related products. Of course the most annoying thing is the hasle that such an event provokes, but the waist of money isn't a mood elevator too, certainly. Don't buy.

5 out of 5 stars A proper review from a professional...   August 7, 2008

This drive is fast, rugged, reliable, quiet, compact, and the cheapest on the market, - what else can one ask - I have 5 and they all work faultlessly - Iam a professional photographer, handling thousands of RAW files of 100+mb each ... please ignore the dimwit reviews... my advice to the dimwits... READ UP ON THE TECHNOLOGY YOU INTEND TO USE!!!!

Having experienced the loss of connection with this drive on my computer ie, No! drive showing. Unable to access it! in any way, I went looking for a solution. On your Home page, type in computer does not recognise external drive. You will be taken to a number of options. Scroll down till you come to section computershopper.com forums etc. Click on this! and scroll down to snowhites solution and may... Tonto! go with you!!. Best of luck!

1 out of 5 stars NOT realy 500GB, otherwise OK   July 23, 2008

This is NOT 500GB and it has nothing to do with conversion bits to bytes (1 byte 8 bits, therefore 1 kb= 1024 bytes) This hard drive has ONLY 465GB. Where is my missing 35GB Western Digital? And as for Amazon they lie to me and I dont think I'll buy another thing from you.
