Amazon.co.uk Review Based on the best-selling novel from Cecelia Ahern, P.S. I Love You is far more than the standard chick flick that it may first appear to be. Relocating the novel from Ireland to America, multiple Oscar-winner Hilary Swank stars as the young woman who has recently lost her husband. And yet amidst her grief, she discovers a series of letters that he's written to help. These letters give her certain things she has to do, to help her move on with her life. It's not a completely clean adaptation of the book, and yet P.S. I Love You has more than enough in its tank to qualify as a good, quality bona fide weepy. Swank in particular is a terrific actress, and delivers another worthy performance here. Credit too to Gerard Butler (Phantom Of The Opera, 300) for his work as her late husband. The film does have a few problems. It meanders a little, and its running time could use a little pruning. Yet nonetheless P.S. I Love You is a well made, engaging drama, and likely to be responsible for a fair bit of blubbing among its target audience by the time the credits roll. Worth a look. --Jon Foster

Lovely! May 15, 2008 Ms. J. F. Gilby (hastings, uk) PS I Love You is a great romantic movie with laughs and tears among the way. I have read the book and yes, there are some bits that arren't in the movie or don't follow in the book's writing. But it's a good effort with stunning peformances from the lovely Hillary Swank as Holly and Gerard Butler as Gerry. They had so much chemisty that it was boiling, they really did look like a couple in love. You will shed tears, I'm warning you now. But there are some laughs and bittersweet moments so you won't be crying too much. In all, the greatest rom-com in a long while.
Okay May 15, 2008 Tarralee Riddoch (Scotland) The film was ...Okay. If i hadnt read the book i would of thought more of it but the Book was so good the film attempt was a disappointment.
Fantastic film, wow! May 14, 2008 E. C. Bellenes (UK) I truly can't understand the bad reviews as this was such a good film, I like some romantic comedy type films but am mainly into horrors and thrillers usually but decided to give this film a go. I have watched so many lame rom coms lately that I didn't hold out much hope for this as I sat down to watch it, how wrong could I be? it was a wonderful film, so funny in parts and at other times extremely moving, I was crying my eyes out during certain scenes, sometimes with laughter sometimes out of sadness. I found the actors to be brilliant, certainly on top form and as a woman very much enjoyed seeing Gerard Butler and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (dad in Supernatural series) on screen, the film is so genuinely moving at times that I felt I was watching a real life couple being seperated by death and forgot it was just a film and the funny moments well are just classic and I just know will make me laugh time and time again. To me this movie went deeper than I thought it would, it made me think about my life, its ideal if you want a good chick flick! I am going to buy this dvd as its one of the best films I have seen in yrs.
I don't want to talk about the plot as it would be unfair to give anything away but all I do say is give it a go, you may really enjoy it like I did. Emma
Good but not as good as the book May 11, 2008 hero_of_canton I love all of Cecelia Aherne's books and as soon as I heard they had started filming P.S. I Love You I was counting down the days until I could see it but after watching trailers and reading the film's synopsis on the internet I was concerned that it seemed to have strayed quite far from the book. On seeing the film my concerns were realised. Its barely recognisable as the same plot! I know films are never the same as the books they are based on bit this one certainly takes artistic licence to a whole new level!!
Having said that the film is still excellent in its own right, you just need to forget about it being based on the book whilst you watch it. The acting is good although some of the Irish accents were a little dubious, is it too much to ask to hire Irish actors for Irish parts?!
I will definately be buying it as it is an excellent chick flick and I would recommend anyone else buy it but just don't expect it to be anything like the book.
ANYONE WHO DID NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE CLEARLY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT LOVE IS!!!! May 10, 2008 Mr. K. Barnard 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Clearly anyone who has given this movie a 1 star has never lost anyone close to them or EVER experienced true love. It is an amazing, sad and beautiful movie about a love that was shared between two and continued to last long after he died. By far one of the best movies i have seen in ages. I have never read the book but i certainly will be going out and buying it. For me this movie was an amazing story of such a strong love that even in death he helped her move on. If you want to see a movie that will make you stop and think about your life and love, then this is the movie for you.
