This must be a Genesis-cover band! Genesis did their last touring in 1977 and has not been active since. Although three of these guy look like aged versions of Phil, Mike and Tony. Is it rubber mask technology? I`d rather admire the stage-sets of "The Musical Box", but the "Elvis-clone-factor" is still not bearable in any context. Who`s that horrible guitar player? Doesn`t sound or look like Steve Hackett at all.........
.....nothing is quite what it seems....................
Top DVD - Poor Packaging July 7, 2008 Aron Jones (Salisbury, Wiltshire) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having seen Genesis on this tour, at Old Trafford, they truly were a 'Dream in the Theatre'.
This DVD is recorded at the Circo Massimo in Roma, and it is excellent, it lasts for hours and you get a documentary DVD included. It really is good.
However, I am disapointed by the actual packaging - which is made from card on the outside, with lightweight, cheap looking plastic inside - to hold the DVD's. I'm really not impressed !
One could argue, and say that it is the contents (the disks) which are the important part ... fair comment, but, I happen to like good presentation for things which are important to me - and this most certainly is not what I call good presentation.
When it arrived, the DVD casing had broken on one corner. I put this down to the postman shuvving it through the letter box - a conventional DVD box would not have broken. I am not best pleased with the outer packaging after it was weak enough to allow damage to the contents.
Probably won't buy any more CD's and DVD's from Amazon again.
Well worth the wait June 26, 2008 Robert Lee (ireland) Albeit the release was delayed it was well worth the wait.Picture, sound, lighting & the overall show were second to none. These guy's have to go down as one of the best live acts & musicians of all time.As for the idiot who thought this was dull he/she obviously has no appreciation of good music & spectacular shows.I was at the gig in Paris and was gutted I couldn't get to Rome for the last European show but the DVD will certainly do the job.Only downer for me was that Abacab wasn't part of the live set but that aside watching the DVD was like being back in Paris last June again and one of the highlights I'm sure a lot would agree was Chester & Phil on teh stools. The guy's can make music from anything.Long live the men in black!!!!!!!!!!
Genesis are back! June 18, 2008 J. Manning (UK) I first saw Genesis in 1972 at the Melody Maker's Poll Winner's Concert in London, where they were supporting Wishbone Ash and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Over 30 years on, they sound as strong as ever as this DVD proves. Sadly only fragments of the material from those exciting times has survived into this 2007 set.
The familiar 5-man line-up pump out Genesis classics from all years in between and you find yourself asking the question "What fifteen year lay-off?". Sure, they look older but the music sounds as fresh as it ever did and Phil Collin's fine voice sounds as strong as ever.
Read the track listing to see what's included and you'll see that these are proven concert favourites. We're all bound to miss a personal favourite or two but these are "safe" numbers that the band can play well. Other reviewers have mentioned the fact there are a few wobbles and mistakes, that may be true (see if you can detect them) but won't detract from your enjoyment of what was a fine concert seen by 500,000 people.
A few gripes, the concert is split over two discs and this is a pain. The "extras" include little vignettes of rehearsal and discussion of each song and are directly accessible from the concert footage. Once viewed they are probably best forgotten, but this does mean that one disc is not enough for the whole show. The third disc is a documentary of how the tour came about and has already been shown on by the BBC. Of interest, but only worthy of a single look. And Phil Collins' attempts to speak to the audience in their own language become tiresome, although the intent is laudable.
Overall verdict? This is a good concert, well-filmed/directed and with good sound. I don't think it's as good as "The Way We Walk" which is of a concert at Earl's Court, London in 1922. Sadly the DVD of that seems to have been deleted. But if you like Genesis, then "When In Rome" won't disappoint.
