Well worth the watch August 20, 2008 Ms. K. L. Grove (Hampshire, England) Watched this on Living and couldn't wait for the DVD! The fact that this is a show geared for adults is also a good aspect for me as kiddiness can sometimes be offputting. The show also prompted me to read the books and I believe that Tony would have been a benefit as would the romance writing as an occupation for Henry. But overall, if you're a fan of this genre - put this on your list.
No clever quips, not entertaining & v.poor quality! August 17, 2008 Riz (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am astonished by how many people have given this series a 5 star rating! I purchased the boxset based on the outstanding reviews here on Amazon and the idea of another potentially great vampire show... unfortunately this really doesn't deliver.
More hard-nosed than BUFFY and perhaps darker than SUPERNATURAL but not as high quality as either. I found myself waiting for sharp witty humour than never came: no satisfying twists or even a few fun fight-scenes I could relish. Quality-wise, if it wasn't for the 15 certification and the dark subject matter, I would say this would slot in quite nicely amongst the lower-budget daytime TV shows we are so accustomed to.
I managed to get this boxset for 9 and since then, the price has gone down even further. I suppose if you can make it past the pilot, there's a few OK episodes in there to look forward to. I agree with the couple of reviewers who point out that this show just recycles ideas from other (much better) TV shows; it doesn't put a new spin on things and any 'action' sequences presented are really low budget. If you're looking for something that deals with supernatural/occult and you've been a fan of things like BUFFY, ANGEL, SUPERNATURAL etc, I recommend buying THE DRESDEN FILES instead - it's the next logical step I guess and a lot smarter, funnier and miles more entertaining than Blood Ties!
Carelessness causes irritation August 2, 2008 A Reader (London United Kingdom) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
On the whole, I actually enjoyed this more than the books, which tend to be a bit padded out. Relative heights aside, the casting was very clever. However, one extremely irritating (and completely unnecessary) mistake reduces this to a three star show: it is made clear that Henry is the son of Henry VIII and yet, when he reflects on being turned, he and his "dam" are seen dressed in mid-eighteenth century costumes. Really, inexcusably sloppy.
blood ties July 6, 2008 D. L. Siddons (uk) what a truley fantastic series.I cant wait for the next series but sadley like all great shows, films and books there is always somebody waiting to pull the plug.Lets hope this want be the case for blood ties. Sweet dreams
Just Brilliant. May 10, 2008 Ms. S. Taylor (England) I first saw Blood Ties on Virgin One and from that first episode I was addicted and was straight to Amazon to buy the box set. And I wasn't disappointed, the seris is just excellent. Blood Ties is well written and kepts you engaged not only with the stories of every episode but also the chartacter dynamics and interractions. Also the acting talent is unmistakable, they are just brilliant and so believable you find yourself totally emerged in the show. Blood Ties is just brilliant.
