Amazon.co.uk Review Racking up impressive box office numbers right across the globe, the arrival of The Simpsons Movie onto the big screen proved, for many, to be more than worth the wait. But with its DVD release, there's a compelling argument that Springfield's finest have come back to their natural home. The film itself is primarily Homer-centred, with the head of The Simpsons family seemingly consigning Springfield to certain doom when he dumps his waste where he shouldn't. But, in the true spirit of the show, the plot takes a relative back seat to the antics of America's first family. And it's those antics that offer the film's gold. As you'd hope, it boasts several laugh-out-loud moments, from visual gags (the rock and hard place being a favourite) through to the by-now infamous Spider-pig. There's not quite enough material to keep the chuckle counter going for the full duration of The Simpsons Movie, and the criticism that it's effectively three episodes strung together has some truth to it. But you'd still be hard-pushed to complain for one key reason: The Simpsons Movie is grand entertainment, with plenty of rewatch potential. So while you can add us to the queue of people who wanted more Mr Burns, and while it doesn't quite measure up to some of the show's best episodes, The Simpsons Movie still delivers, and does it with some quality. And Spider-pig is a work of genius

Dire... just dire. August 6, 2008 Joseph Hunter (Liverpool, England.) After waiting nearly 20 years, The Simpsons Movie is here. And it's crap.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of The Simpsons, although the newer seasons are missing something, and the film is like an overly long episode of the newer seasons. I laughed out loud maybe twice throughout the film. The plot is laughable (and not in a good way), and it's all just very... sub-par.
Great animation, but a really terrible film. Save the money and buy Season 5 instead.
It is all about the money baby! July 28, 2008 23akanga (Wirral, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am going to come right to the point: This film is a load of drivel. I can actually understand why it took over a decade to come out. I believe everytime they looked at what was supposed to be the end-product, they cringed; it is that bad. The plot-line is not weak, it is non-existent; the jokes are lame and it lasts 84 minutes, which is about 80 minutes too long. The Simpsons series is overwhelmingly popular and deservedly so. I'm a huge fan as I think it is one of the most original and clever cartoon series ever. The makers succumbed to that oh-so-familiar human failing: Greed. They wanted to exploit the popularity of the TV show and, financially, they probably succeeded. However, this movie will not help them get new converts and it may very well signal the beginning of the end. What a betrayal.
Awful Film June 27, 2008 Claude McBanister 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really wanted to like this film. I really did. But it was a task that was not possible. How anyone could see this film as being a modern classic baffles me. They must either be between the ages of 5-10, really immature, have a terrible sense of humor, or brain dead. Judging by some of the reviews, some people are all 4. The jokes are not witty (Spider-pig. Is that actually supposed to make people laugh? 10-15 or so writers and they come up with that?!), the characters have changed, the story is shocking, and the film is just generally a horrendous experience. Many of the people that rate the film highly on the internet claim that others are not intelligent enough to get the jokes. What?! They must beyond stupid to say something like that. The jokes are harrowing. It hurts me inside to see such a brilliant, witty, groundbreaking show turn into one of the worst things i have ever been subjected to. The Simpsons is dead, and has been for 5 or 6 years. People, please stop forcing yourselves to like this film and the new Simpsons. They are awful.
so so June 6, 2008 martin thomas (england) it has its moments but ultimatly a big dissapointment and will only satisfy die hard fans of the tv series
Mixed Feelings!! May 28, 2008 Jake M (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all, I am a HUGE Simpsons fan, In my opinion, it's the best cartoon of all time! When I found out that there was to be a Simpsons movie, I couldn't believe it and just HAD to see it! When I did however, I was slightly disappointed. Whilst not a bad movie, I expected far better! The storyline is pretty weak and some of the most popular characters are under-used, you hardly ever see them! With the Simpsons series episodes, you find yourself laughing every minuite or so but with this movie, it just isn't the case because that magic just isn't there. However, I did find some bits amusing, it is worth watching on more than one occasion and I do recommened that every fan of the Simpsons should buy this DVD just to make up their own mind about this long-awaited epic. The bottom line is, "The Simpsons Movie" is certainly not a 1 star flick, it's quite enjoyable but please don't set your hopes and standards for it too high is all because there is a good chance that you may be disappointed!
