This was an amazing book!! I bought it on a whim after my friend kept telling me "read twilight!!! read twilight". i haven't looked back. Since then every conversation at lunch time has had at least one reference to the tale of bella and edward......... it's unforgettable.....
The character of Bella is so easy to relate to. Then there's Edward........ It is impossible to read this book and say you did not fall in love with this character.
Unfortunately this book leaves very high expectations for New Moon/Eclipse and it is extremely easy to be left feeling disappointed after reading the sequels. Let's hope Breaking Dawn doesn't suck cause I cannot wait for it.

I know the majority of people reviewing this book have said that it was incredible etc etc but I'm going to say it again because really, it truly is amazing.
I like a good love story as much as the next person but this was something else. Literally, you can't help falling in love with Edward. I'm not even joking when I say he's the perfect guy (aside form the fact that he's a vampire, I guess). If you like a little romance in a book then Twilight is perfect for you.
I've read all the classics like Pride and Prejudice etc and as much as I enjoyed them, after reading them once or twice that's enough for me. Twilight is the complete opposite. This may just be my personal opinion but I recon I could read it again and again and actually not get bored. Judging my everyone elses comments on here I don't think I'm alone in that opinion. New Moon and Eclipse are equally as good and I'm actually counting down the days until Breaking Dawn comes out.
To any one considering buying this book, I say just do it. It is amazingly good (I can't say it enough times) and if you don't enjoy it (you're probably a little crazy) then sell it on the Amazon Market Place. Honestly, this (along with the second and third) is my favourite book EVER!

Just like most people who have reviewed, I borrowed this book for a read after the hype became a wee bit too much to ignore. The only thing I'm thankful for is not having bought it myself.
There are books with faults, books which may be lacking in one aspect, for example plot, but make up for it with memorable characters. There are books which are the complete opposite. And then there's Twilight. Inexcusable grammar mistakes? Check. Cliches? Check. Bad characterization? Check. No plot whatsoever? Check. Purple prose? Check. Blatant self-insert? Check.
I refuse to believe that all teenagers are infatuated over Edward and can relate to Bella (the male and female protagonists of the series), but I can see how a certain few would. Bella is a fine example of a popular modern term; Mary-Sue. She reads the classics, listens to 'Clair de Lune', refuses to believe she's attractive when half the Forks population is smitten by her and reduced to bumbling idiots, and many things more that I cannot reveal without a spoiler warning, so I'll stop here. Edward, her love interest, is absolutely perfect, of course, and exhibits the kind of machismo and over-protectiveness that I imagine sounds romantic to women who suffer from damsel-in-distress syndrome (like Bella). Also, he sparkles. Literally. I kid you not.
This is a fairy tale romance, the kind that tries its damndest to convince its audience to suspend their disbelief till their eyes pop out, but I for one can't bring myself to do that. No if there isn't at least one redeeming aspect about a book, and there isn't where Twilight is concerned. Bad characters are the protagonists, characters with even a tiny bit of depth and potential are shoved in the background and the audience has to suffer through pointless waffle while Edward and Bella discover what we're desperately told time and time again is 'true love'. The only hint of a plot comes towards the very end of the book, and even then it's so poorly executed that it simply isn't worth it.
I forced myself to read more of the saga as I was assured that it gets better. The second book, New Moon, is indeed better though still nowhere near good. Nevertheless, it made me hope for an even better third book, but sadly, Eclipse dives right back down into Twilight quality.
Only worth a read if you are planning on writing an MST3K version. Which I would gladly buy and read.

After only just finishing this book in the early hours of this morning, I felt inclined to writing a review of some sort although I'm afraid it will read all too similarly to that of most other people.
This book grips you from the first instant. Meyer has a great way of dragging the reader into the story - I guarentee that 90% of females that have read this book found themselves wanted wholeheartedly for their very own Edward Cullen to walk into their lifes the moment they first read of him. Am I right? Then that in itself shows how much thought was put into making the characters within this fantastic book so perfect, so real. You can tell that S.M holds a strong connection with them - in the same way as JK Rowling with Harry Potter, perhaps? That connection makes the story all the more touching and inspiring. Written in a flowing, easy to read fashion with repetitive phrases to emphasise certain point, 'Twilight' is definatly a must read for everyone. It'd be hard to be let down by this diamond. Admittedly there are a few lose spots that kind of leave you wondering if you're understanding it properly, but they are easily resolved.
I will keep this book close to me for a long time to come, I'm sure.
'And so the wolf fell in love with the lamb' - Yes, I too think Meyer successed very well with making every readers heart flip something stupid at that phrase. We've all been there.

I do not actually understand how i have lived without reading this book for so long. Without this book no life is complete, and no i am not a fantasty junkie, i just have a very strong opinion. However try this book and if you do not agree there is a good chance you weren't paying attention to what you were reading. Stephanie Meyer is a genius, i have finally found a book that is better then Harry Potter and that is quite a challenge, The twilight saga will be hard to beat for anyone including some of the past literacy greats. On a final note BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN and always will be
