Not worth the cash May 11, 2008 Mr. P. Taylor 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I knew this was going to be just a walkthrough of the main game (which, apart from the flying rat and jump guide it pretty much is) then I wouldn't have bothered.
You can find better walkthoughs online.
I bought this expecting it to have pics of the cars so you could identify them and more detailed info on the rest of the city.
There is only one pull out map and that's just the basic city with the same info on that you get with the game itself. It would have been better to have the weapon, armour and health maps as pull outs too.
From the thanks at the back of the guide I think the writers spent too much time being pampered in New York and drinking Maker's Mark than playing through the game and thinking how to structure their guide well.
Simply looking at Brady's Vice City Guide first would have been a start.
Waste of money. Only gets an extra star for the layout and pics inside which are nicely laid out. Shame about the content.
GTA IV STRATERGY GUIDE May 6, 2008 Joshua (Ireland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all i had to give it 5 stars. this is what you need if you wish to complete the game 100% and i mean 100%, the book is fully detailed with hiden weapons, and small objecties and gives you a brief idea about the characters. Also for the xbox 360 it tells you how to complete your 50 acheivments. Thumbs UP!
Great Guide for a Great Game May 5, 2008 Mr. D. W. Kenrick (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a really comprehensive book, as you'd expect from Bradygames. It has all the information and tips you'd want from a strategy guide, but as another review mentioned, it has changed in format. The guide is split into colour coded sections - which i assume roughly correspond to mission strands - and incorporates in the main story side missions such as Vigilante, Car Theft and Random Characters. Though it does tell you at the end where to find hidden items and jumps I did miss the Vehicle showroom, which is why I'm not giving it the full five stars.
Lacking small details May 5, 2008 T. Jones (Dartmoor, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
All this guide seems to have is a main mission walkthrough and a few handy maps at the back. Which is great, but I feel it should contain more. I would've like to see a complete vehicle list and good locations to find them. The profiles on the main characters are a bit thin on details. There are no maps showing the locations of the 'Easter Eggs' (Heart of Liberty City etc.) and secret details. I do like the mini guides to help you find all the stunts and flying rats though. On the whole a good purchase, but it seems to have been rushed through to come out in time with the game. I bet Prima could've have done better.
A change of format. May 4, 2008 Mr. L. C. Button 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Previous Bradygames GTA guides have always began with the controls, weapons and a vehicle showroom. This guide does not. The controls for the Xbox360 and PS3 are not discussed anywhere, the weapons are listed on one page and there is no vehicle showroom. Passtimes or Procedural Missions as they are called in this guide are incorporated into the Main Story Walkthrough. An example is how the Vigilante missions are described after the Crime and punishment mission in the book.
Each of the Main Story missions are broken down into Objectives, Prerequisites, Fail Conditions and New Elements Introduced. A map of the local area is included which shows the positions of weapons, first aid kits and armour to help in a specific mission. The back of the book has several Liberty City maps which show the position of all 200 flying rats (pigeons) and Unique Stunt Jumps. Multiplayer coverage is very brief - only 6 out of 286 pages are dedicated to it. There is a foldout map inside the back cover which shows the location of vehicles, races, characters, etc.
I missed the Vehicle Showroom but the authors have obviously put alot of work into this guide. For anyone wanting to get the most from GTA4 this guide is probably essential.
